GARMIN and Simone Moro: TOGETHER TOWARDS NEW AND AMBITIOUS GOALS

The team holding the world leader in satellite navigation enter the Italian mountaineer more representative of recent decades. Not only as a testimonial because Simone Moro will be involved in the development of products dedicated to outdoors, where Garmin has already a position of leadership.

Monday, February 8. Simon Brown met the Italian press in the stand of Garmin ISPO Winter 2010 (Monaco). The high-resolution photos are available by clicking on pictures or at the following link: http://www.ldlcom.it/public/public/attach_img.asp?IDC=2110

It is considered one of the strongest climbers in circulation after being grown on the walls of the Alps, was successfully measured on major Himalayan peaks. Today Simone Moro is more of a mountaineer, a true testimonial of the mountain in all its forms: classic rock climbing, ice climbing and mixed up sports, going to the skyrunning races and ski mountaineering. In short, a true hero of the outdoors.

It is for this reason that Garmin chose him as an "active" testimonial for the size of the outdoors.

Simone Moro, in fact, will not be limited to the use of GPS products dedicated to the world of sport, but also will focus on the development of an increasingly divided and closer to users requirements.

To do business on the Himalayas, the climber from Bergamo must sustain a demanding physical training, based on long trips on foot in height and long rides bike racing, in addition of course to climb the peaks of the Alps Thus Simon is a member "total" of instruments Garmin. Forerunner dedicated to running, Edge for two wheels, Foretrex for touring and climbing, hiking Dakota and Oregon will be his future material and labor of study.

"Simone Moro is our ideal testimonial because it is a sport professionals of 360 degrees and for there to over 8,000 meters we want to be Garmin," said Stefano Viganò division manager Sports and Outdoor Garmin Italy "and this will be possible thanks to the support that Garmin will provide Simone, with products dedicated to monitor his daily workouts guided him to the highest mountains in the world. "

"I am extremely pleased with the launch of the partnership with Garmin, a brand which is linked many memories of my adventures in the mountains," added Simone Moro “and also because I can offer to the company my experience of 30 years of mountaineering ".

But who is Simone Moro?

Born in Bergamo on 27 October 1967, began as a young man to attend and learn about the mountains. First walking trails with his family during the summer holidays, then climbing with his father and at the age of 13 he started climbing in a crag on Orobie. In 1985 he participated in the first climbing competition in Bardonecchia. Forthe next five years and was competing in sport climbing at international level, so he got into the Italian national team in 1988, and was the coach until 1996. Graduated with 110 cum laude in Physical Sciences, Simone Moro speaks five languages and gives lectures worldwide.

His familiarity with the instruments of the satellite navigation also stems from having taken a license for helicopters. Since 1992 I have over 40 mountaineering expeditions including 10 winter expeditions in almost all of the continents. Some of these adventures have been awarded in Italy, Russia and America. 10 times I got on top of a primary or secondary 8000 meters peak, although my mountaineering is not only focusing on the collection of the 14 eight thousand meters peaks. This is the reason why in my recent past there are many peaks of 7000 and 6000 meters as well as technical ice climbing and mixed climbing. I like life touring as widely as possible and varied. However, climbing is not the only passion of Simon, though it remains his main occupation. In fact it is quite easy to find his name linked to the parachute and, recently, to wingsuit skydiving. Also, his love for the high altitudes led him to become a private pilot and commercial helicopter rating on the turbine model AS 350 B2. Among the other things, he has had time to write two books: "Comet on Annapurna" and "8000 meters of living." But Simone Moro has increased the headlines for an important story that has seen him involved in the Himalayas, where he worked for one extreme rescue, without oxygen and at more than 8000 meters on the west face of Lhotse 8516 m in Nepal to help the mountaineer Tom Moores. To rescue the English man, Simon gave up his climbing push the summit, and this choice earned him several international awards such as Fairplay Pierre de Cubertin Trophy by UNESCO, the Gold Medal for Civil Valour by President of the Italian Republic and in the United States joined the prestigious David Sowles Award
